Walter R. “Bud” Barry

Walter R. “Bud” Barry, 82, Woodstock, died Friday, June 19, 2015, at Hearthstone Manor, Woodstock.

He was born Sept. 8, 1932, to Harold and Gertrude (Reynolds) Barry in Huntley. 

On May 26, 1951, he married Caroline Urban in Woodstock.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He lived in Woodstock for most of his life. He retired from Union Special in 1996 after 39 years of service. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Woodstock. He was a member of the American Legion, and he volunteered at the Woodstock Food Pantry for several years. He enjoyed woodworking and fixing small engines.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Penny (John) Johnson and Peggy (Chris) Grasley; a daughter-in-law, Donna Barry; a stepdaughter, Carol (Gunner) Berglund; six grandchildren, Adam (Michelle) Cook, Jessica (Matt) Greget, Marc (Brooke) Grasley, Andrea Grasley, Andrew and Alex Barry; five stepgrandchildren, Shannon (Robert) Diamond, Brett (Sandy) Fredrick, Phillip Fredrick, Jaclyn (Sean) Hodges and Jesse Johnson; seven great-grandchildren, Alexis, Zachary, Colin, and Sara Grasley, Paige Mackay, Owen Greget and Isabella Cook; five step-great-grandchildren, Oliver Greget, Emma Howard, Alexis and Jared Fredrick, and London Diamond; two sisters, Dorothy (Glenn) Hammer and Judy (Denver) McCowan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Donald Barry; a son-in-law, Rob Cook; a great-grandson, Ethan Mackay; a great-granddaughter, Zoe Rae Grasley; two brothers, Claude and Charles Barry; and two sisters, Dora Velmont and Ruby Peters.

The visitation and funeral were held June 23 at the Free Methodist Church. Burial was at McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
