Marilyn A. Winton

Marilyn A. Winton, 68, Woodstock, died Friday, June 13, 2014, at Centegra Hospital-Woodstock.

She was born to Stanley and Virginia (Cielak) Goryszewski on Aug. 11, 1945, in Chicago.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Northeastern Illinois University and a master’s degree from Aurora College. She taught at St. Thomas the Apostle Elementary School and then in Woodstock School District 200 schools for 14 years. 

She was proud of her teaching career and was recognized as a Star 105.5 teacher of the month and Who’s Who in America’s Top Teachers. In her retirement, she continued her love of education by working at the Challenger Learning Center for Science & Technology. She was a devout member at St. Mary Catholic Church. 

She enjoyed history, travel and gardening. She was an avid Chicago Bears fan. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her loving family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas (Jennifer) Cheski and James (Rebecca) Cheski; a daughter, Lauren (Garrett) Hackett; four grandchildren, Alana, Emma, Mary Clare and Julia Cheski; good friends, Bonnie Burns, the Ward family, the Schleutermann family and Carol White; and two granddogs, Raven and Dixie Chopper.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation was June 16 at the Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home. The funeral mass was June 17 at St. Mary Catholic Church. 

Burial was private.
