Chrome Attic brings Flannel Friday to VFW
Chrome Attic, a Crystal Lake based recording studio and record label, is hosting its third installment of the concert series, Flannel Friday, May 18 at the Woodstock VFW Post 5040, 240 N. Throop St.
“The theme is fun and the Chicago bands are great,” said Brandon Pacyna, who runs the events division at Chrome Attic.
Chrome Attic has been in existence for about five years but only recently began hosting events, Pacyna said. A Woodstock resident, Pacyna has organized music at the VFW in the past and thought it only made sense to bring the Flannel Friday concert series to the area.
“I graduated from Woodstock High School, and I hear the grumblings about there being nothing to do here,” Pacyna said, adding the VFW provides an often overlooked venue for live music. “The venue is really great … A lot of people have this misconception that it’s only open to veterans.”
Pacyna said the concert series has a different vibe than a typical bar scene, something he believes many are craving in the suburbs. At Flannel Friday, music is the showcase not just an added form of entertainment.
The event will feature three Chicago area rock bands — Cousin Dud, Rabble Rabble and Magic Milk. Pacyna said several members of Cousin Dud are former Woodstock residents, which should help draw a crowd. He said Rabble Rabble played at a previous event at the Woodstock VFW and was widely embraced, earning the band a return trip to the area.
Pacyna said the idea for Flannel Friday comes from the recent trend of concertgoers in their 20s wearing flannel shirts and skinny jeans. He said making flannel shirts the dress code was a way to lightly poke fun at the trend.
Pacyna said concerts he has hosted at the VFW have drawn about 100 attendees in the past. He hopes the Flannel Friday event will bring in about 125 people. Pacyna said he expects the crowd to be a mix of McHenry County residents and Chicagoans who will make their way to Woodstock via the train.
Attendees who take their picture at the Flannel Friday photo station and upload it to Chrome Attic’s Facebook account will receive a free drink. The attendee whose picture receives the most “Likes” also will win $100 to spend at Threadless.com, a Chicago T-shirt design company.
