Ed Hall, 62, Harvard

Ed Hall, 62, Harvard, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at JourneyCare Hospice Center, Woodstock, with his loving wife at his side.

He was born Sept. 3, 1953, to Fred and Dorothy (Frizzell) Hall.  

He and his wife, Debbie (Vanderstappen), were together for 19 years.

He had many interests and talents.  He was very proud to be an Eagle Scout, avid canoer, marathon runner and competitive tennis player.

Most importantly, he was an accomplished musician. In 1991, he won the National Fingerpicking Guitar Championship. He was a guitar teacher, a prolific performer throughout the Midwest, and producer of 206 shows at the Woodstock Opera House during the past 35 years.

In addition to his solo work, he was half of the group Friedlander and Hall from 1973 to the present.  He was also the guitar player for the Celtic-eclectic folk band Trillium.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ethan (Elisa) Hall and Skyler Hall (Nisi Rockcastle); two grandsons, Arlo and Everette, and another grandchild on the way; a brother, Ken (Diana) Hall; his mother-in-law, Mary Vanderstappen; two sisters-in-law, Joan (Terry) Ward and Anita Turner; two nephews, Ben Hall and Stuart (Jill) Turner; three nieces, Sarah Hall, Vanessa (Tim) McCalla and Ginny Turner; and four grand-nephews and -nieces, Brooklyn, Brody, Alyssa and Jack and another on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Albert Vanderstappen.

A memorial gathering and celebration of life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at the Woodstock Opera House, with a memorial service at 2 p.m.

Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or JourneyCare Hospice Center, Woodstock.
