McHenry Co. preservation commission holds photo contest
The McHenry County Historic Preservation Commission will offer a photo contest open to McHenry County residents ages 18 and older. The theme is “Documenting Historic or Vintage Architecture in McHenry County.”
The photo should show an entire building, a structure on the property or an aspect of the building with historical or vintage interest. The photo can be black and white or full color. Photo editing should be limited and restricted to lighting or color correction. The photograph should be no bigger than 8 inches by10 inches.
The following information must be securely attached to the back of the submission: full name, phone number and/or email address and a brief description (not more than 50 words) of the photo content.
Entries can be submitted online by sending a jpeg file of not more than 4MB to smfoley@co.mchenry.il.us. The subject line should read “MCHPC Photo Contest.” Finalists will be asked to provide a hard copy of their photographs.
There is no entry fee. Entries must be received by Wednesday, April 25.
Judging will be done by the commissioners of the McHenry County Historic Preservation Commission. Finalists’ photos will be displayed at the McHenry County Courthouse Annex during May, National Historic Preservation Month.
Entries will be judged on content, composition and overall appeal. Prizes will include $75 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place.
By submitting photographs, participants agree to grant the McHenry County Historic Preservation Commission a permanent non-exclusive license to reproduce and publish the photographs in any medium and quantities. Participants must certify that the photos are their own work and they own the property or have permission and a signed release to submit the photos of the property from the owner of the property.
