George C. Sotiroff, 61, Woodstock

George C. Sotiroff, 61, Woodstock, died Friday, June 24, 2016, at JourneyCare Hospice, Barrington.

He was born March 9, 1955, to George J. and Mattie (Logan) Sotiroff in Granite City.  In 1982 he married Joanne Sieck at St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock.

He loved jazz music and was a bass guitarist. He was an active member of St. Mary Church and played in the contemporary choir.  He also was a member of the CR Praise and Worship Band. 

He most enjoyed spending time with his children, his granddaughter, and his extended family. He will be remembered for hosting the family barbecues featuring his famous smoked meats.

Survivors include his parents, Granite City; his wife; five children, Daniel Sotiroff, Naperville, Amanda (Chris) Park, Framingham, Md., Ryan Sotiroff, Tara Haute, Ind., Brandon (Nisha) Sotiroff, Naperville, and Kara Sotiroff, Woodstock; a granddaughter, Junhee Park; a sister, Debbie (Greg) Wagner, Washington; an uncle, Chris Sotiroff; many brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation and liturgical wake service were held June 27 at Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. The visitation continued Tuesday, June 28,  at St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock, followed by a funeral Mass with the Rev. Burt Absalon officiating.  

Interment followed in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Woodstock.
