The McHenry County Coroner’s Office identified a man who was struck by a Metra train Jan. 15 as Walter E. Banker.

Banker, 76, of the 200 block of Seminary Avenue, was struck by the eastbound passenger train on the railroad tracks near 341 E. Lake St. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:15 p.m. and the cause of death was determined to be blunt trauma to the head.

Railroad crossings throughout town were closed, and traffic was redirected for about two hours after the incident. According to Woodstock Deputy Chief of Police Jeffrey Parsons, the Investigations Division of the Woodstock Police Department confirmed the death was a suicide, and no foul play is suspected.
