Marjorie M. Carle, 97, Woodstock

Marjorie M. Carle, 97, Woodstock, died Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Valley Hi Nursing Home.

She was born May 15, 1919, to Robert and Rosemund (Garland) Schwass in Des Plaines.

On Oct. 12, 1940, she married Elmer Carle in Des Plaines.

She attended Maine Township High School and Elmhurst College. 

She was the manager of the national award-winning classified department at the Arlington Heights Herald in Arlington Heights. She later served as secretary and personal assistant to Stuart Paddock. She was also an excellent artist with a talent for painting landscapes and a flair for portraits, which she painted well into her 80s.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Christopher) Sergel and Christina Carle; three grandchildren, Christopher (Jeanette) Sergel III, David (Maureen) Sergel and Melissa Peterson; six great-grandchildren, Natalie Saalfeld, John Sergel, Andrew Sergel, Grace Sergel, William Sergel and Breyon Peterson; and two great-great-grandchildren, Madison Saalfeld and Jason Kotarba. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years; her parents; and a brother, Robert Schwass.

A private burial was held at Oakland Cemetery, Woodstock. 

Arrangements were made by Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock.
