Carlen McMahon, 64, Island Lake

Carlen Dacia McMahon, 64, Island Lake, died Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington.

She was born June 22, 1952, to Edward and Pauline (Green) Brown in Chicago.

On Nov. 23, 1996, she married Raymond P. McMahon, Island Lake.

As a teen, her family moved to McHenry County, where she lived the rest of her life. She raised her children in Woodstock before moving to Island Lake in 1995.

She was very creative and artistically talented. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, painting, decorating, gardening, writing and garage-saling. She was an avid collector of jewelry and dachshund paraphernalia. Most of all she loved her family. She had the biggest heart and would be the first person to help you in a time of need. She had the best laugh and loved making people happy, which she was exceptionally good at. She will be missed dearly.

Survivors include her husband; two children, Erin (Alex) Kumm, Woodstock, and James (Rebecca) Chesler, Union Grove, Wis.; a step-son Dan (Amanda) McMahon, Radcliff, Ky.; five grandchildren, Annabel Kumm, Gabriel Chesler, Zach McMahon, Sam McMahon and Allie McMahon; three sisters, Paula (Dan) Carrick, Linda Brown and Dolly Brown; a brother-in-law, Jack Dunn; three nieces, Amber Carrick, Lauren Brown and Andrea (Chad) Peake; eight nephews, Jerrod Brown, Thomas Scott, Colton Howell, Wayne (Carrie) Moran, Jamie (Kelly) Moran, Michael Moran, Ryan Moran (Erickah Cashell) and Rick (Terri) Beaudoin; and many grand-nieces and -nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Ann Moran; a sister-in-law, Joan Dunn; and a nephew, Matthew Carrick.

A celebration of her life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, at her daughter’s home, 938 Duvall Drive, Woodstock. The family requests guests wear comfortable, cheery clothing and come with a good story to share.
