Sue Shaw

Sue Shaw, 69, Woodstock, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at JourneyCare Hospice Center, Woodstock.

She was born Oct. 18, 1945, to Arnold and Mary (Spitler) Macke in Clark County, Illinois. 

On June 15, 1968, she married Lloyd Shaw in West Union.

She graduated from the University of Illinois in 1967 with a degree in education. She taught for two years in Peoria and Champaign before taking a position with Woodstock School District 200 as an elementary teacher. She ended her career to stay home to raise her family. She remained very close to her sons all of her life. After they were grown she went back to work as a substitute teacher and later as librarian at Olson Elementary School. 

She was very active in her sons’ athletic booster clubs in football and wrestling, especially with fundraising and volunteering at concession stands. Her life was spent guiding children, not only in school, but out of school as well, where she regularly counseled and helped children who lost their way. She had relationships with foreign exchange students, many of whom stayed in her home, which she continued through the years. 

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Michael (Joelle) Shaw and Jeremy (Kari) Shaw; two granddaughters, Hadley Shaw and Nora Shaw; five brothers, Joe (Betty) Macke, Ken (Elenor) Macke, John (Patricia) Macke, Steve (Beth) Macke MD and David Macke; a sister, Alice (Joe) Schroeder; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial gathering will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 21, with the Rev. Tom Rogers officiating.
