Gerald A. 'Yogi' Bauman, 74, Union

Gerald A. “Yogi” Bauman, 74, Union, died March 22, 2016, at JourneyCare Hospice Center, Woodstock. 

He was born Oct. 14, 1941, to Arnold and Bernice (Piske) Bauman. 

On April 13, 1968, he married Dora Munson Yardley.

He was a proud 50-year member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, serving as an officer and president/business manager of Local 1035 from 1994 until his retirement in 1998. He was a long-standing member of the Union Lions Club and Woodstock Moose Lodge 1329. 

He loved boating, fishing, camping with family and friends and playing golf. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, Cubs and Blackhawks. He will be remembered fondly as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Vernon (Tracy Vasquez) Bauman, Wonder Lake, Lowell (Dawn) Bauman, McHenry, and Michael (Leticia Martinez) Bauman, California; a brother, Tom (Barbara) Bauman, Union; two sisters, Carol (Richard) Swingle, Arizona, and Gloria Bauman, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Samuel Bauman, Amanda Bauman, Summer Bauman, Devon Gehrke, Austin Gehrke and Corrin (Bryce) Prestwich; a great-grandson, Zayne Prestwich; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two stepchildren, Mark Yardley and Dorene Yardley; and a grandson, Alexander Zank-Bauman.

Visitation was March 28 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. The funeral was March 29 at Zion Lutheran Church, Marengo. Interment was at McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock.

The family would like to thank Hearthstone Rehab, JourneyCare Hospice Center, Woodstock, sisters- and brothers-in-law Dian and Terry Micklevitz and Bob and Sharon Goehring and special friends Keith and Patti Dahlke.
