Police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place in Woodstock early this morning.
A male was found shot in a public parking lot at the corner of East Calhoun and South Jefferson streets at around 1:15 a.m., Woodstock Police Chief John Lieb said.
The victim was pronounced dead at a local emergency room after being transported from the scene by the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, according to a press release from the Woodstock Police Department. Police have not released the victim’s name or age.
Police do not have any suspects in custody at this time, Lieb said, and no description of a suspect is available. Lieb said he does not believe there is any danger to the public.
“It’s not our thinking at this time that this was a random act,” he said.
Lieb said several Woodstock Police officers were a few blocks away when the shooting happened.
“Our officers were dealing with something over on the Square when they heard gunfire,” he said.
Two people also called 911 to report hearing shots, according to the WPD.
Members of the McHenry County Major Investigation Assistance Team were called to the scene. The taskforce is asking for help in identifying the suspect or suspects involved in the shooting. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the MIAT tip line at 815-363-2201. Callers may remain anonymous.
